Portal gubernamental de las Islas Canarias: Plan de vivienda en Telde y Gran Canaria

The councilor, accompanied by the mayor of Telde and the councilor for infrastructure and housing, visits the plots where 109 properties will be built
The executive will also rehabilitate a group of 60 houses located in Jinamar VI
The progress in this action, after more than 15 years without the construction of public housing in Telde, highlights the executive’s commitment to improving the living conditions of the Canary Islands and the Canaries.
The Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, accompanied by the Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, and the Councilors for Infrastructure and Housing of the Municipality, Iván Sánchez, has visited the Rapegas where the executive will develop 109 public housing units.
Councilor Pablo Rodríguez emphasized that «the start of the construction of these 109 houses in Telde is a clear example of the commitment made by the government of the Canary Islands to housing during this term. After more than 15 years without public houses in the municipality, we are taking a decisive step to address one of the main needs of our population: access to decent homes.»
«The decree law 1/2024 that we approved last year precisely focuses all efforts on the construction of public housing, that is, accelerating the steps for the construction of public housing. This is what we achieved throughout 2024, accelerating procedures to have more than 1,000 public houses in the Canary Islands,» he said while also mentioning that this year 2025 will begin the work to still have 1,000 in the construction process, «Something historic if we compare it over the last two decades.»
The councilor emphasized that the decree of urgent measures law also focuses efforts on the construction of protected housing by the private sector, «to see an opportunity in the construction of protected housing, as it is also essential to have various public housing, various protected housing, and various housing in general in the Canary Islands.»
On the island of Gran Canaria, there are a total of 9,200 registered in the public housing applicants’ registry, of which 4,800 are requesting a rental property.
This meeting today and the visit to the plots where this project will take place is a milestone for Telde and demonstrates that we are fulfilling the commitment made. In addition, collaboration between different administrations is essential to stimulate both the construction of new houses and the rehabilitation of existing ones, and thus provide an effective response to housing emergencies affecting many Canary and Canaries islands.
These houses, divided into three groups, two of 36 properties each, with a price of 42 euros, will take place on three plots located on Manuel Alemán Álamo Street.
Rodríguez recalled that these initiatives «correspond to an urgent processing, a consequence of applying decree law 1/2024, as of February 19, which establishes measures to address housing emergencies.»
Additionally, the Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, said, «The fact that Telde is being considered again, at a time when there is a high demand for housing in the Canary Islands, is good news for everyone. We are very grateful to the councilor and the regional government for the boost they will give to this project. Also, during the meeting, I raised the possibility of providing municipal property land to continue this dynamic, to increase the number of public houses in Telde, continuing to increase with future projects.»
During the meeting, they also discussed the status of the project for the rehabilitation of 60 houses located in Jinamar VI, whose execution project is already written and will be offered in the first quarter of 2025.
