The prohibition of making fires in outdoor areas, burning vegetative or forest residues, and using any type of machinery that could cause sparks remains in place.
The Cabildo de La Gomera activated the Insular Emergency Plan (PEIN) this Saturday, due to the alert for winds and forest fire risk decreed by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The forecast indicates a general moderate northeast wind, with strong local areas and probable strong and very strong gusts, reaching and exceeding 90 km/h in La Gomera, 70-80 km/h locally in El Hierro, La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, and 50-70 km/h in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The wind will have a greater impact on the northwest and southeast slopes of the highest relief islands, and in the summit and midlands of the south of La Gomera.
In addition, there will be a period of high temperatures in midlands and high areas, with maximum temperatures likely to reach or exceed 34-37°C. A relative humidity below 30% is expected at altitudes above 400-600 meters. The general wind will be from the east and northeast over the weekend, moderate to locally strong.
RESTRICTIONS AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Therefore, the Cabildo has proceeded to prohibit transit on tracks and trails of the island, as well as closing recreational areas and zones.
Thus, the population is urged to comply with the restrictions set out in the PEIN declaration. Additionally, all technical and human resources of the island’s Cabildo, volunteer teams, and state security forces are activated.
Grade 1 preventive measures remain active, with the prohibition of making fires in outdoor areas through bonfires, stoves, barbecues, and wood-fired ovens. This measure also applies to the use of stoves in all recreational areas located in forested environments, which will be closed.
Furthermore, burning vegetative or forest residues and the use of machinery that could cause sparks are prohibited, as well as pyrotechnic displays in fire-risk areas.
The population is advised to take extreme precautions throughout the island, with any activity that could cause a fire, such as smoking, using generators, or electrolytic material. The use of brush cutters, chainsaws, welding units, or grinders is also prohibited.
The population is recommended to follow the advice established by the Directorate of Security and Emergencies for wind and forest fire risk. Additionally, it is reminded that in any risky situation, individuals should contact emergency services through 1-1-2, or CECOPIN at 922 14 15 01.
