The City Council of La Laguna hosted the presentation of the fourth edition of the Tenerife Agroganadera Fair FAGATE 2025 on Tuesday, June 17th. The event will take place from July 15th to 20th and will feature over 80 activities including exhibitions, contests, craft sales, livestock walks, demonstrations of native breeds, gastronomic market, masterclasses, equestrian shows, concerts, and more.
During the event, speeches were given by Cristina Ledesma, Councilor for Rural Development of the La Laguna City Council; Valentín González, Councilor for Primary Sector and Animal Welfare of the Tenerife Island Council; Manuel Expósito, President of the Tenerife Livestock Association (AGATE); Santiago Cacho, President of the Canarian Drag Federation; and Mariano Pérez, Mayor of El Sauzal, as the invited local administration for this edition.
Cristina Ledesma emphasized that «FAGATE helps us to connect and convey to future generations all the opportunities that this essential and strategic sector offers in our land. We are very proud to present this event once again in La Laguna, coinciding with the 46th Livestock Fair of San Benito Abad, an occasion to celebrate the identity of native breeds and contribute to rural development and sustainability.»
Mariano Pérez expressed gratitude for the invitation to the El Sauzal City Council as the invited municipality for this edition. «Being part of this event is an honor for our town, which has a historical agricultural background and is very sensitive to issues related to the primary sector. It is a tribute to the daily effort of our admired farmers and livestock breeders, who not only generate employment and wealth but also protect our landscape, our traditions, and our rural way of life.»
Manuel Expósito highlighted that «FAGATE helps us to showcase the daily effort and work of so many professionals who offer us unique products and flavors from the island every day. This year, we are focusing on the native breeds of the Canary Islands and we want to introduce all generations to the cultural and genetic heritage that distinguishes us.»
Valentín González pointed out that «this Fair is an example of inter-administrative collaboration to create an event that goes beyond the island of Tenerife. It is a strong commitment to promote local products and safeguard the health of our primary sector, which has faced challenging times in recent years due to various factors.» He also mentioned that the Casa del Ganadero, the headquarters of this initiative, will unveil significant improvements this year focused on the grandstand cover, access points, and animal reception docks, among other areas.
Finally, Santiago Cacho, President of the Canarian Drag Federation, detailed much of the program, emphasizing that «many of the activities in this edition will focus on products derived from our native breeds.» In the culinary section, special attention will be given to actions such as the cooking masterclass scheduled for Tuesday, July 15th, led by the Gran Canarian chef Yeray Bolaño.
«Another important event will be ‘Elders, much to live for,’ a meeting planned for July 18th with the support of the Economic and Social Forum and the La Laguna City Council, involving the participation of 280 seniors from the municipality,» Cacho announced. He also mentioned other events such as the traditional Night of the Donkeys (July 17th), which this year will be dedicated to the Majorero donkey.
Finally, within the Fair itself, numerous and varied activities will be held open to the public on July 18th, 19th, and 20th, including exhibitions, training sessions, and musical performances by groups like Pieles, Rabiche, Ínsula, and the La Cirila band.
